Breast Cancer: A serious threat

 What is a Breast Cancer?

It is an abnormal growth of cells in the breast tissue, which presents as a lump which can be either painless or painful. 

As per WHO, In 2022, there were 2.3 million women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and 670000 deaths globally. This is not a region specific cancer, but can occur to any women and at any age.

Diagnosis Of Breast Cancer

It can be done either by screening tests and by discussing the symptoms experienced by the individual. Tests include mammography, X-ray, MRI.

Causes of Breast Cancer:-

  • Increased body weight
  • Early menstruation
  • Late menopause
  • Genetic mutations in BRCA1,2 and PALB-2 genes

Symptoms:-


  • Lump in the breast 
  • Altered texture of breast skin
  • Blood discharge from nipple
  • Rough areolar area
  • Inverted nipple
  • Red and swollen lymph nodes
  • Inflamed nodes in the armpit area
Cancer Awareness:- 
A female should be fully  aware of all the changes that tend to occur in them and should be able to acknowledge the diversion from normal physiology.
This initiative has already been taken by different government as well as non-government organizations.
  • "The 'Find It Early, Fight It Early On-Ground Campaign' is an effort of FUJIFILM India to propagate the importance of early detection and periodic screening of lifestyle diseases is one such example.
  • Indian Cancer Society has a campaign named "Rise against Cancer"
  • Pink Initiative
But the targets of these organizations can only be achieved if women fraternity is ready to break the social stigma of talking about these so called "personal problems which cannot be discussed in the outer world"
A women can be cancer free if diagnosed early and treated as well. So for this to happen, do not let these cancer spread in your body and take away the precious lives.

Treatment:- There are various modalities available as per the detection of the stage of cancer.
  • Surgery
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Hormone therapy
