The field of dentistry in medicine has expanded and demonstrated vast potential applications for artificial intelligence in the current era.


Upon reading the title, one would assume that the arrival of AI in this industry would not result in an even greater shortage of work prospects. However, not all advancements have the same effect; instead, some lead to improved patient-doctor relationships, shortened wait times, and better patient care delivery.



So, now let's understand what are the clinical aspects of Artificial Intelligence
Very large proportion of the present population have visited a dental office at least once in their life, so what do you observe :
  • A Dentist
  • An assistant
  • Dental chair and set-up
  • Appointments dairy with its time bound schedule
  • Equipment's required for certain defined procedures
  • Sometimes, long waiting time for your turn

This is the ideal layout of any dental clinic earlier, but now the persons involved are the same, but the time required is much less and quality is more effectively delivered.

Intraoral Scanners: In the past, when elderly patients came for dentures, impressions were taken using different materials, such as moulding wax, which made the patient very uncomfortable and even caused gag reflexes. Moreover, the impressions were rarely perfect, with some flaw always being pursued for the next impression. However, with the help of these intraoral scanners, which scan the entire oral cavity and display the results on a screen, a perfect denture can be made, even cutting down on lab time and the number of patient visits.
Radiovisiography:- In the past, when we performed Root Canal therapy, we had to take a periapical X-ray whenever we needed detection or to perform an obturation. This was very laborious for the patient and the clinician. However, now that the X-ray films are not stored and developed, you can use a chairside screen with your instruments used digitally, saving time and effort each time.

CAD/CAM scanners :- In order to improve the design and manufacture of dental restorations, particularly dental prostheses such as crowns, crown lays, veneers, inlays and onlays, fixed dental prostheses (bridges), dental implant supported restorations, removable or fixed dentures and orthodontic appliances, the field of dentistry and prosthodontics has developed CAD/CAM dentistry . With the use of CAD/CAM technology, patients can receive prostheses that are durable, aesthetically pleasing, and well-fitting.



Virtual Reality:- Dental care can be streamlined by using teledentistry appointments, which minimize in-person visits. Dental professionals are frequently able to digitally create treatment programmes and make early diagnosis.

Caries detection via laser:- Due to the fact that mottled enamel or cavities are not always evident in two dimensions, lasers were developed to help identify caries early and remove materials that can worsen oral health.

There are various advantages of teledentistry:

Enhanced Convenience: Cuts down on time spent on dentist visits.
Enhanced Accessibility: Facilitates dental care for people living in rural locations or with limited mobility.
Enhanced Efficiency: Makes it possible for dentists to perform virtual screenings and consultations.
Possible Cost Savings: Could lower the total cost of healthcare for both patients and providers.
