Recurring boils in your hidden areas

Hidradenitis Suppurativa

It is a disorder which once begins, has no cure , it can only be controlled.

Medically defined as:-

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also sometimes called acne inversa, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes painful, boil-like lumps to form under the skin.

These lumps usually develop in areas where skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, and under the breasts.

The lumps can become inflamed and infected, and may eventually burst and drain pus. HS can also cause scarring.

Causes:-

The exact cause of HS is unknown, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetics, hormones, and immune system function.

HS is not contagious and it is not caused by poor hygiene

Symptoms:-

Skin: lumps, rashes, rashes that look like acne, small bump, or ulcers

Also common: abscess, body odour, excess sweating, itching, pimple or blackhead, pus, or swelling

It is a very painful and irritating condition and it can be completely cured, your dermatologist can only control the flare ups.

Treatment:

  • In mild cases, we tend to give antibiotics
  • In moderate to severe cases, the person is put on corticosteroids.
  • Surgical excision with skin grafting
  • Laser therapy can be given

# Corticosteroids should not be given to pregnant ladies or any couple who is planning a family.
