TB Capital of the World- INDIA

    TB CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

I am writing this blog, to make every Indian aware of the health status that prevails in the world regarding Tuberculosis (TB).  This blog focuses on different statistical data and analysis that has been done by various in-house and exotic researchers.

India has been the TB Capital of the world as per WHO

In 2021, eight countries accounted for more than two thirds of global TB cases: India (28%), Indonesia (9.2%), China (7.4%), the Philippines (7.0%), Pakistan (5.8%), Nigeria (4.4%), Bangladesh (3.6%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (2.9%) - This is the accurate and statistical data available on official website of WHO.

This is the chart showing a serious scenario of our country which is bowing down in terms of respiratory health.

What is Tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs, but can also spread to other parts of the body. It's caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

People with active TB in their lungs or throat can spread the bacteria to others through the air when they cough, sneeze, speak, or sing. People with latent TB infection have the bacteria in their bodies but are not sick and cannot spread the disease to others.

Here are some of the symptoms of TB:

  • A cough that lasts for three or more weeks
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite

If you have any of these symptoms, it's important to see a doctor to get tested for TB. Early diagnosis and treatment is important to prevent the spread of the disease and to ensure a successful recovery.

Here are some things you can do to prevent the spread of TB:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Put the used tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water.
  • If you are diagnosed with TB, it is important to take all of your medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Diagnosis of TB:-

Diagnosing TB involves a two-pronged approach: first identifying possible infection and then determining if the infection is active or latent. Here's a breakdown of the tests:

1. Tuberculin test

2. Interferon gamma release assay

3. Chest X-ray

4. Biopsy

5. Molecular tests
