   Monkey Pox Virus 

This virus causes an infectious viral disease which can affect humans and other animals.

Orthopox virus belonging from the family of variola virus (smallpox) causes this disease .

It got its name because this condition was first observed in laboratory monkeys, hence the name.

In the year 2022 also, India reported certain cases of monkey pox, but in this year 2024, this condition has originated in a rapid manner all across the globe.

Earlier it was endemic to the African region.

At least 99,176 cases and 208 deaths due to monkeypoxhave been reported from 116 countries since 2022, according to WHO data. (The Indian Express)

Causes and Spread:-


  • Orthopox virus
  • Direct contact with the infected person
  • Having multiple sexual partners
  • It spreads through body fluids like blood 

Symptoms of Mpox

Symptoms typically begin within 3-21 days after exposure and include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Backache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • A rash that can look like pimples or blisters


Treatment and Prevention



  • Treatment: There's no specific treatment for mpox, but symptoms can be managed with supportive care.
  • Prevention: Avoiding close contact with infected individuals, practicing good hygiene, and getting vaccinated (if available) can help prevent mpox.

Important Note: The global outbreak of mpox in 2022 and 2023 has raised significant concerns. While the situation has improved, it's essential to stay informed about the latest recommendations from health authorities.
