Diabetes in Summer- Symptoms not to be ignored



 

Rejoice the summer, stay cool and indoors sugary people

 I come across people those who are diabetic and are suffering miserably in these summers which they are not even aware that these symptoms are because of their known condition of diabetes.





As we are all aware that there are 2 types of diabetes:-



Type 1 :- IDDM (Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus)- this indicates that there is no production of insulin inside the body by pancreas, that's why before consuming any food, person has to take a insulin shot, otherwise the sudden increase in blood sugar can be fatal.

This becomes important for their survival.

Type 2 :- NIDDM (Non- Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus)- This indicates that there is either deficiency of insulin or improper utilization of insulin made by pancreas.

This condition is managed by tablets and maintaining the sugar level by controlling the amount of sugar in your daily diet.


The major problem faced in summer is Dehydration



Dryness of skin- this is generally felt by the patient who is under the medication for diabetes, but if ignored, it can cause diabetic coma.

Dehydration- Loss of water tends to increase the level of sugar in blood, can lead to diabetic shock

High temperature can increase the blood sugar level, which affects the activity of sweat glands, thereof body does not gets cool properly which was earlier happening physiologically , therefore leading to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.


There are certain signs for diabetic emergency which are to be taken care of:-

-hunger.
  • -clammy skin.
  • -profuse sweating.
  • -drowsiness or confusion.
  • -weakness or feeling faint.
  • -sudden loss of responsiveness.

Tips to manage your diabetes in hot weathers:-


  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • Monitor blood sugar levels
  • Do some physical activity
  • Avoid stepping outside under scorching sun
  • Eat fruits and salad
  • Take care of your feet and skin associated

So beat the heat with healthy and nourishing solutions. Do not let the heat suck the good vibes and nutrients.
