Febrile seizures can precipitate Epilepsy later

Image
FEBRILE SEIZURES It is a convulsion in a child that's caused by a fever. Underlying reason remains to be fever due to infection. It occurs in young healthy children with no history of neurological symptoms. Febrile seizures are usually harmless and lasts for certain minutes and do not indicate any future health problems. Symptoms:- Usually, a child having a febrile seizure shakes all over and loses consciousness. Sometimes, the child may get very stiff or twitch in just one area of the body. A child having a febrile seizure may: Have a fever higher than 100.4 F (38.0 C) Lose consciousness Shake or jerk the arms and legs Types of Febrile Seizures:- Simple febrile seizures: - These seizures remain for few minutes to maximally 15 minutes and there is no recurrence within 24 hours. Jerking is not specified to any part of the body Complex febrile seizures: - These seizures remain for more than 15 minutes and there can be a recu

Rethink and Eat

Image
RETHINK AND EAT, IT'S YOUR BODY, DO NOT BE HARSH ON IT Hi there! Instead of writing about a specific illness today, I'm writing about the novel idea of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and my appreciation for the medical documentary "Hack your Health-Secrets of your gut," which I found on Netflix. I was intrigued by the thumbnail and decided to read the description, which promised to take me on a tour of the digestive system. Thus, based on my regular interactions with people at work and at home, I hear complaints about various health issues such as diarrhea, constipation, and upset stomachs. This is what we typically learn.  However, the approach known as "Fecal Microbiota Transplantation," which treats the issue using the feces of healthy people, has advanced beyond expectations and produced incredibly unexpected outcomes. In order to create this unique visual information, numerous physicians, pathologists, and diagnostic specialists fr

Dropping Hemoglobin- Not just Anemia can be Thalassemia

Image
THALASSEMIA Thalassemia is a inherited blood disorder in which mutated genes are passed from parents to children, where hemoglobin formation process is disturbed. Hemoglobin is the pigment present in blood which gives blood its color and make it rich in oxygen which provides oxygen to each and every cell of the body. So this implies that defective hemoglobin can lead to serious problems. Synthesis of Hemoglobin:- The two main components of hemoglobin synthesis are  globin production and heme synthesis . Globin chain production occurs in the cytosol of erythrocytes and occurs by genetic transcription and translation. Many studies have shown that the presence of heme induces globin gene transcription. So any mutation observed in the formation of globin chain leads to the defect named thalassemia. Types of Thalassemia:- Thalassemia Major:- It is also known as beta-thalassemia, in which there is  severely deficient synthesis of β-globuli

Dormant chicken pox virus can trigger Bell's palsy

Image
CHICKEN POX It is the most highly contagious disease in the environment, which can affect any age group those who are not vaccinated or are in direct contact with the infected person. It is caused by Varicella zoster virus.  It can cause an itchy, blister-like rash among other symptoms. The rash first appears on the chest, back, and face, and then spreads over the entire body. Chickenpox can be serious, especially during pregnancy, in babies, adolescents, adults, and people with weakened immune systems (lowered ability to fight germs and sickness). Course of the disease:- This infection lasts for 4-7 days.  Signs and symptoms:- The classic symptom of chickenpox is a rash that turns into itchy, fluid-filled blisters that eventually turn into scabs. In the most fulminant cases, the blisters can spread to the entire body including mouth, eye area and genital area. Other typical symptoms  that may begin to appear one to two days be

Its bleeding.. Oh My God its Hemophilia

Image
HEMOPHILIA It is an inherited bleeding disorder in which blood does not clot properly. This can be due to deficiency of clotting factors (Factors 8 and 9) and certain proteins which helps in clotting. This can result in spontaneous bleeding during surgery or after the surgery and even causes heavy bleeding in females during their menstrual cycle. Causes:- Hemophilia is caused by a  mutation  or change, in one of the genes, that provides instructions for making the clotting factor proteins needed to form a blood clot. Inheritance:- The genes encoding for clotting factors are present on X- chromosome. Males have ( XY) and females have (XX) chromosome.  Males inherit the X chromosome from their mothers and the Y chromosome from their fathers. Females inherit one X chromosome from each parent. Effect of Hemophilia on individuals:- Hemophilia can result in: Bleeding within joints that can lead to chronic joint dise

Breast Cancer scare continues- Volume 2.0

Image
Breast Cancer 2.0 As I have already shared the threat of breast cancer which is increasing hour by hour in women has taken a tragic turn and the numbers have showed an enormous multiplication . According to the latest lancet report, by 2040, the deaths reported due to this carcinoma will be a million. This is really huge. This accounts only about the number of deaths, it has been still not possible to give the exact numbers of active cases. According to the report, there are glaring biases, and those suffering from symptoms, despair, and financial burden, are often "hidden and inadequately addressed". Predisposition of the condition:-  Age Sex Family History Genetics Smoking Alcohol consumption Obesity Radiation exposure Hormone replacement therapy There is a myth associated with breast cancer and wearing bras which is not at all worthy of even worrying, because there is

Diabetes in Summer- Symptoms not to be ignored

Image
Rejoice the summer, stay cool and indoors sugary people  I come across people those who are diabetic and are suffering miserably in these summers which they are not even aware that these symptoms are because of their known condition of diabetes. As we are all aware that there are 2 types of diabetes:- Type 1 :- IDDM (Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) - this indicates that there is no production of insulin inside the body by pancreas, that's why before consuming any food, person has to take a insulin shot, otherwise the sudden increase in blood sugar can be fatal. This becomes important for their survival. Type 2 :- NIDDM (Non- Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) - This indicates that there is either deficiency of insulin or improper utilization of insulin made by pancreas. This condition is managed by tablets and maintaining the sugar level by controlling the amount of sugar in your daily diet. The major problem faced in summer is Dehydration Dryness of skin - this is general

Chagas Disease

Image
CHAGAS DISEASE It is a parasite induced infection caused by bugs and spreading to humans. Chagas disease is caused by the parasite  Trypanosoma cruzi , which is transmitted to animals and people by insect vectors and is found only in the America, so therefore also called American trypanosomiasis. It is usually seen in swamp areas and rural areas of Latin America. It is estimated that as many as 8 million people in Mexico, Central America, and South America have Chagas disease, most of whom do not know they are infected. If untreated, infection is lifelong and can be life threatening. Transmission:- It is spread via bugs which pass on the vector in the healthy humans after biting them. Parasite- Trypanosoma cruzi (found in feces) Insect vector- Triatomine bugs also called kissing bugs These blood-sucking bugs get infected with  T. cruzi  by biting an infected animal or person. Once infected, the bugs pass the parasites in th

Testicular Cancer- Rarest but Still witnessed

Image
TESTICULAR CANCER One of the rarest, but still occurring Testicular cancer affecting majorly leading to severe problems even infertility in males. It is the cancer when the cells of testicles grow enormously and becomes a palpable mass. Size can vary from a garden pea to a size of a golf ball. Responsibilities of Testicular cells:- Formation of sperms Production of testosterone Participation in hypothalamus-pituitary unit which helps in regulation of reproduction. So, it is an unambiguous argument that it plays a major role in a mans' life. Testicular cells are present in testes which are enclosed by a sac like thing called Scrotum, located under the penis. Predisposition towards cancer:- -In normal cases, testes usually descend from abdomen to reach the place under penis just before birth, in case of any failure, it is then surgically located at its place, which makes a male more prone towards developing cancer in his later life. -
